Alexander S. Maisuk, 87, of Duluth, died Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Viewcrest Health Center. Alex was born on April 6, 1933 in Duluth to Steve and Anna (Bochenek) Maisuk. He graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1951 and enlisted in the Navy where he served for 20 years. In the spring of 1970, Alex married Shirley Thro at the Air Base Chapel in Duluth. Following his retirement from the Navy in 1972, Alex worked for American Steel and Diamond Tool. Alex was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 71 and the Proctor Moose. He enjoyed reading war novels, fishing, traveling and cooking. Alex was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; sisters, Marie, Irene and Delores Maisuk, Sandra Fournier, Olga Saari and Ellen Plaisted; brothers, Fred, Raymond and Joseph. He is survived by a sister, Dorothy Voss of Blaine, Minn; stepsons, Michael (Kelly) Thro and Mark (Cathy) Thro both of Duluth; grandchildren, Scott Thro, Laura (Derek) Hanamann, Melissa (Erick) Sundeen, Kristine (Matt) Krall, Michael (Kara)Thro; great-grandchildren, Mattisyn and Owen Krall, Norah and Bennett Thro, Aaron, Mya and Lane Hanamann, Lukas, Kyler, Cameron, Zachary and Brody Sundeen; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Visitation 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, December 19, 2020 at St. James Catholic Church, 721 North 57th Ave West. Social distancing and masks are required. Burial at Oneota Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard.
