Alice Jean Knudson, 92, of Duluth, died Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Franciscan Health Center. Alice was born on March 3, 1927 on a family farm near Brookings, South Dakota, to Grace Lena (Niemann) and John DeBoer. She married William Milton Knudson on July 3, 1949 in Bruce, SD. Alice went to cosmetology school in Watertown after high school. She was an exceptional seamstress and many wardrobes benefited from her skill. Gardening, knitting, sewing quilts, crafts and fixing whatever broke were her specialties. Alice was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always marveling at how smart they are. She loved spending time at her lake home and with her family. Alice was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; siblings, Earl, Adeline, Bernice, Roger, Stanley, Donald, Opal and Doris; a son-in-law, Mark Pillsbury. Survivors include her children, Susan Pillsbury and Jon (Mardi) Knudson; grandchildren, Neil (Anya) Knudson, Beth (Pat) Loiselle, Kyle (Trista) Knudson and Jennifer Pillsbury (Kyle Katzmarek); five great-grandchildren, Emery, Elle, Gavin, Mark and Grace. A heart-felt thanks goes out to Pines III Assisted Living and Franciscan Health Center for the respectful and caring way Alice was treated. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
