Anita Christine Swanson

Anita Christine Swanson entered into Eternal life March 1, 2026 at the age of 82, and has taken her last and longest journey. Anita was smart, generous, hardworking, and an enthusiastic volunteer. Anita graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and later earned a Master's Degree in History. As a world traveler, Anita has been to all the continents, save for Antarctica. She was a prolific reader, loved crossword puzzles, and never tired of learning. She spoke multiple languages and her knowledge of history was astounding. She began her career in the natural gas industry, retiring in 2004, enabling her to travel even more. Anita was a dedicated volunteer with the Girl Scouts, beginning as a camp counselor in college, filling leadership, training, and camp director roles for more than 30 years, receiving a 30 year pin for her many years of service. Her many interests included cheering for both the Duluth Dukes and UMD ice hockey teams. She also had season tickets to the Duluth Symphony, and attended UMD's classes for seniors. Anita was preceded in death by her father, Irving G. Swanson, mother Elizabeth L. Bastian Swanson and sister Janet Helene Streu. Survivors include sisters Julie Ann Cain (Steve), and Gerri Shaw (Bill); nephews Michael Lucey (Laura), and Alexander Cain; nieces Kathleen Loomis, Stephanie Rootes (Alex), Amanda Streu, (Adam Clemens), grandnephew Taylor Young, grandnieces Rebecca Lucey and Samantha Young, and numerous cousins and many loving friends. A Celebration of Life gathering and reception for friends and family will be held Friday, March 20, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Miller Creek Condominium Community Center, 2158 Miller Creek Dr., Duluth, Minnesota.
