Barbara J. Strand, 86, passed peacefully and became a heavenly angel on January 20, 2022. Barbara was born in Duluth to Tillie (Mankowski) and Frank Wizner of Duluth, MN. She graduated from Denfeld High School in 1953. She married Donald Strand on October 20, 1956, and resided in Pike Lake. In addition to raising five children, she also worked outside the home, later retiring from St. Luke’s Hospital as a receptionist for the Radiology Department. After retiring, she loved to help others and give back volunteering at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was a charter member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, where she was very active. She taught Catechism, served on the Ladies Guild, and was a Eucharistic Minister. She loved being outdoors working in her yard or her kitchen baking and cooking – you never left her home without having something to eat or drink. She loved her volunteer work but, more than anything, loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; brother’s, Bernie Wizner, Walter Wizner, and his wife Jean; brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Vera Strand. She is survived by her children, Bill (JoAnn) Strand of Las Vegas, NV, Dan (Kathy) Strand of Northome, Rita (Terry) Giernett of Cotton, Sandy (Tom) Knox of Duluth, Don Strand of Duluth; sister-in-Law, Elaine Wizner of Douglasville, GA. After fifty-eight years of marriage to Don, they were blessed with twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, extended family, and lifelong friends Cindy (Joe) Brown, Peggy (Ray) Campbell, Linda & Vern Fossum. Our family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff at the Benedictine Health Center, especially the Safe Harbor team, for the kind and compassionate care given to our mom over the past few years. Thank you for all the beautiful stories you shared with us during the last few weeks.
