Bruce Asperheim

Bruce Edward Asperheim, 59, of Duluth, died unexpectedly Friday, May 11, 2018 while at work. He was born in Duluth on September 16th, 1958 to Janice and Gerald Karkanen. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Dan Asperheim, in Lakewood and Barnum, Minnesota. Bruce was a graduate of Barnum High School and had often, if not always, made the honor roll. He loved playing chess and riding horses in his youth. He had a passion and a knack for fixing things and often used his skills to build and repair small engines. He especially loved riding and working on his Triumph motorcycle. He was a big fan of Star Trek, and enjoyed talking and watching sports with his brothers. He had an infectious love for music. He volunteered several years in the 90s to the Boy Scouts of America. His playful demeanor made him excellent with children and young adults. He was a member of Spirit of God Lutheran Church where he had a lifelong commitment to God and was active in the church. Bruce married Johanna “Jo” Newkumet at Zion Lutheran Church in 1997. Following complications from diabetes, Jo preceded Bruce in death a few months earlier. Bruce is also preceded in death by his mother, Janice Asperheim. He is survived by his father, Gerald Karkanen; his step-father, Dan Asperheim; his sisters and brothers, Kim Horton, Lynn Rilea, Sam, and Brian; his three sons from his first marriage to Anne Ohara, Daniel (Rieko), Benji, and Scott (Brianna) Asperheim; five grandchildren, Arthur, Andrew, Jameson, Isabella, and Felicia; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service Friday, May 18th, 2018 at Spirit of God Lutheran Church, 2431 West 3rd St.  The Rev Mark Osthus officiating.
