Our mother, Carol Lillian Schneeberger, was gathered into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 22, 2024. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her family in St. Luke’s Hospice - just a couple of weeks shy of her 91st birthday. Carol was born in St. Luke’s Hospital to Alfred & Lillian Bruce on April 6, 1933.
After graduating from Central High School in l951, she worked as a stenographer at the St. Louis County Court House and also at Marshall Wells. Carol met the love of her life, John Schneeberger, when she was just 13 years old. They married on September 8, 1951 and were married for 65 years until John’s passing in 2016. She became a stay-at-home mom when their first child was born. They were blessed to have three daughters. Carol was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, its Mary Circle and Sunshine Group. Carol loved to garden and had a very green thumb. She still has a plant that she received from her grandmother that is way over 100 years old. She enjoyed family gatherings for many years at their lake place in Iron River, WI with its fruit trees and beautiful massive gardens which she planted and nurtured. Carol was known by her family as “Snow White”. She would feed and talk to every animal no matter its size. She felt it was her duty to take care of all of God’s creatures. From chipmunks in her pocket to bears whose back she would scratch with a rake while they ate. She even had a full-size buck eating out of her hand. Carol did not enjoy cooking, she said she would rather “clean the barn than cook”. We bought her a plaque that read – “I only have a kitchen cause it came with the house”. She will be dearly missed.
Carol was preceded in death by parents and her loving husband, John. Carol is survived by daughters, Carolyn (Gary) Lofald of Duluth, Diane Schneeberger (John) of West St. Paul, and Susan Smith (Ralph) of Solon Springs, WI; grandchildren, Carrie (Jeff) Bruns, Derek Lofald (Libby), Jesse Runions (Vanessa), Lacy (John) Rady, Tori Rider (Will), Erika Rider (Dawson) and Vincent Rider (Monica); eleven great-grandchildren, Brody and Ella Bruns, Treyton and RayLynn Runions, Cambria, Caleigha, Cage, and John Rady, Kendall Hanson, Blakelyn Kirchert, and Mason Rider; sister, Vivian Economy and her children; extended family; many wonderful friends and neighbors and her church family. The family wants to thank her wonderful doctors and also the staff on the St Luke’s Cardiac and Hospice units for their kindness, tender care and compassion, not only in their care for Carol, but towards her whole family.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 28, at Christ Lutheran Church – Duluth at 11:30 am; visitation beginning at 10:30. Private interment at the Duluth Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.
