David Allen Olson, 76, passed from this life to his heavenly reward on Monday, Sept 3, 2012 with his family at his side, from complications of stroke and Chronic Kidney Disease. He was born in Duluth on January 20, 1936 to his parents, August and Mildred Olson. David was a graduate of Hermantown High School, Senior Class President and sports standout. He graduated from UMD and began his teaching career at Hermantown. In 1976, he traveled for the State of Minnesota introducing Community Education, and inaugurated the program at Hermantown. Dave coached high school golf and one of his proudest moments was the 1986 girls second place finish at State. He was a member of the Twin Ports Officials Association for almost 40 years. Dave was united in marriage to Jean Peterson on August 24, 1957 and celebrated 55 years this August (in the ICU). They enjoyed summer weekends at the cabin and many travels including Yellowstone and Black Hills. Their travels continued after retirement to places including Arizona, Florida and Texas. Grandchildren were a special joy for Dave and he loved attending their various events. Dave was an easy going loving husband, great father, wonderful grand and great-grandfather and friend to all he knew. He will be greatly missed.
