Dorothy Carlson

July 17, 1926 — March 5, 2015

Dorothy M. Carlson, 88, of Duluth, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the Solvay Hospice House. She was born in Duluth on July 17, 1926 to George and Esther (Erickson) LaFlamme. Dorothy was a graduate of St. Jean's Catholic School and had worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell. She married Ed Carlson on February 5, 1949 in St. Jean's Church. Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Duluth Heights and was active with the Plus 55 Club and the funeral lunch committee. She was a very caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, oil painting, cooking, baking, canning and always had the coffee pot on. She loved spending time at the cabin on Long Lake, taking pontoon rides and sitting around the fire. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brother-in-laws, Clyde Sykes and Jim Fitzsimmons. She is survived by her husband, Ed; children, Marie (Jim) Killian of Ferndale, WA, Jim (Cindy Kubishak) Carlson of Duluth, Jeanine (Gordon) Wunder of Colville, WA, Theresa (Todd) Lawlor of Duluth and Annette (Mark ) Berg of Duluth; three sisters, Maxine Sykes, Grace Nesgoda and Maryann Fitzsimmons all of Duluth; 10 grandchildren, Jamie, Nicole, Carolyn, Reid, Andrea, Adam, Ben, John, Rachel and Kyle; 3 great-grandchildren, Kulshan, Lilya and Marian. Dorothy's family would like to thank the hospice nursing staff including Marie and Julie and the Solvay Hospice House for the wonderful care they provided. Visitation 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2015 in Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home with Rosary Prayers at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 1 until the 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, March 10, 2015 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Duluth Heights. 151 West Linden St. Rev Fr William Fider officiating. Memorials to St. Joseph's Catholic Church would be appreciated.
