Dorothy Sorenson Halvorson died October 3, 2017 in Essentia Health.  She was a lifelong resident of Duluth and lived on Leicester Ave.She was born in Duluth and married Chester (Chet) Halvorson April 5, 1946 in Zion Lutheran Church.  She was a 1943 graduate of Denfeld High School and attended Duluth Junior College.Dorothy retired in 1986 after working 21 years in the Physics Department at the University of Minnesota, Duluth.  In her earlier years she was active in PTA and Cub Scouts.She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church; served on the Council and Worship Committees, was formerly treasurer of the Memorial committee and Zion Vikings.  She was a member of Elizabeth Circle, Order of Eastern Star, (Trinity Chapter #242), Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary (Post #137), formerly Lutheran Social Services PEM Volunteer and Volunteer Guardian; Minnesota Retired State Employees Association, St. Luke’s Hospital Volunteer Guild.  She was a volunteer in the America Reads Program at St. John’s School.  She enjoyed traveling and going to their cabin and most of all enjoyed her wonderful family.Her Parents were Louis Sorenson and Helga Sorenson Haglund and step-father Martin Haglund.Survivors are sons:  Dene (Sally) Halvorson and Craig (Lynne) Halvorson of Duluth; daughter Lora (Richard) Frostman of Cronulla Australia, seven grandchildren; Erik (Nanette) Halvorson of Lake Nebagamon, WI, Kristin Halvorson of Charleston, SC, Cheri (Jeff) McKay of Wrenshall, MN, Berit (Fiancée Cara Wright) Halvorson Owatonna, MN, Hanna (Jamie) Dowling of London, England, Evan Frostman of Tavares, FL., Martin (Ann) Halvorson of Duluth, MN, Great-grandchildren; Netanya and Paul Halvorson of Duluth, MN, Abby and Ashleigh McKay of Wrenshall, MN, and Kyle Vandell of Duluth, MN, Special friend Jaime Avenall of Duluth, MN.Visitation 10:00 a.m., Saturday,  Oct. 7th, 2017 with funeral service to follow at 11:00 am at Spirit Of God Lutheran Church(formerly Zion Lutheran), 2431 W. 3rd St., Duluth. Rev. Mark Osthus officiating.  Inurnment Park Hill Cemetery. Williams-Lobermeier-Boettcher Funeral Home is entrusted with final care. In lieu of flowers , memorials to the Church are preferred.
