Dorothy Mae Mehling, 94, of Duluth, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Villa Marina with her family by her side. She was born in Duluth on June 22, 1925, to Alfred and Florence (Trudell) Jobin. Dorothy attended St. James School and went on to graduate from Denfeld High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Donald Mehling on August 24, 1946. Dorothy was a homemaker, a dedicated wife and a loving mother to her four children. She enjoyed Post Home, Bible study, and summers at the cabin on Lake Nichols. She also enjoyed travelling, playing Bingo and having lunch with her friends at the West Duluth Senior Center. She was an active member of the Women’s Guild at Good Shepherd for many years. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; her sisters, Lucille Bennette and Florence “Snookie” Gauthier. Surviving is her sister Rosemary (“Cookie”) Fechner (Ronald); two sons, Roger (Julie Kim) and Terry (Nancy) of Duluth; two daughters, Wendy (Marty) Goldberg and Pam (Don) Hawkins of Superior, WI; six grandchildren, Chad (Maribel), Jason (Melissa), Sarah (John), Elyssa, Caitlynn and Madison; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at St. James Catholic church, 721 North 56th Ave West, Rev. Fr. Richard Kunst officiating. Burial at Oneota Cemetery and a meal at St. James Catholic Church following the cemetery. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of the Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center of Superior, WI, for their compassionate care of Dorothy.
