Father Lloyd Mudrak

June 21, 1936 — February 15, 2024

Duluth

Father Lloyd Mudrak, aged 87, died on February 15, 2024, while a resident at Bayshore Residence and Rehabilitation Center in Duluth, MN. He was born in Duluth, Minnesota on June 21, 1936, to Frank and Mary (Chapinski) Mudrak.

Father Mudrak attended St. James School in Duluth, MN and Nazareth Hall Preparatory Seminary High School in St. Paul, MN, then went on to study philosophy and theology at St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, MN.

Father Mudrak was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Duluth on, June 2, 1962, by Bishop Francis J. Schenk at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosery in Duluth, MN.  In his many years of faithful service to the Diocese of Duluth, Father Mudrak served at: St. Joseph Church, Chisholm; St. Francis Church, Brainerd; St. Anthony Church, Ely; St. Charles Church, Cass Lake; Holy Spirit Church, Virginia; Sacred Heart Church, Virginia; Sacred Heart Church, Mountain Iron; Mary Immaculate Church, Coleraine; St. Mary Church, Marble and St. Joseph Church, Taconite. He also served as the Director of Catholic Boy Scouts, Diocesan Director of the Newman Apostolate, Diocesan Director of Religious Education, Chaplain of the Minnesota National Guard, Episcopal Vicar, a member of the Priest Senate/Consultor, Personnel Board and was a member of the Presbyteral Council. Fr. Mudrack retired in 2011.

As an inspiring priest, Fr Lloyd touched many lives in his service to the Lord. He was loving, kind and gentle.  Despite his very busy life, he made time for family and friends. Father Lloyds favorite summer past time was picking berries. He was known for arriving at a family gathering with his fresh baked pies in hand especially at the family’s lake place in Aitkin, MN. And then for a quick swim with the kids or maybe paddling a canoe.  He loved the great outdoors and took numerous canoe trips to the BWCA, always with a small group of campers and would start each day with Mass in the wilderness.

Although your mind and speech left us years ago to the effects of dementia, we were always loving you and praying for you and now we say our goodbyes and pray you will forever enjoy the gift of heaven.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Mudrak and his brother, Ron Mudrak.

Survivors include his brothers, Gene Mudrak, Frank Mudrak; and nephews Kerry (Sarah) Mudrak, Kevin (Tara) Mudrak, and Rick Mudrak; niece, Laura; as well as many close Antus cousins.
