It is with great love and sadness that we share the passing of Gordon L. Burleigh, 78, of Duluth, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 in his home surrounded by family. Gordy was born on July 21, 1947 in Duluth to Marvin and Violet Burleigh. He was a graduate of Denfeld High School, attended UMD and served in the US Army. Gordy worked at the Target store in Duluth for over 44 years where he was a team leader. Spending time with family and friends was most important to Gordy, whether it was gathering around the dinner table for a great meal, kids sporting events or traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Sharon (Don) Bierlein and Cheryl Burleigh; his stepmother, Alice Burleigh. Gordy is survived by his wife, Merrilee; a son, Bucky Burleigh of Grand Island, NY; a daughter, Holly (Eli) Miller of Duluth; seven grandchildren, Ava, Scarlett, Wesley, Keanna (fiancé Nick), Kayden (fiancée Serena), Brooke and Bailee; nephews, Mike (Marge), Jeff (Laura) and niece, Heidi ( Pat); numerous step siblings and their families; his four legged companion, Whitney. Gordy requested no services. Burial in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery-Duluth. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the donors charity of choice, or Animal Allies or the VFW Post 137 would be appreciated. Gordy's family would like to thank Benedictine Home Care and Essentia Hospice for the excellent care provided to Gordy these last months. “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”
