Howard B. “Howie” Peterson, 92, a resident of Proctor, Minnesota went home to the Lord on May 29, 2025. Howard was born to Albert B. Peterson and Harriet (Tangen) Peterson. He graduated from Denfeld High School in 1950, later attending UMD with majors in Mathematics and History. He married Judith Yvonne Barto in October 1957. They were happily married for 51 years.
Howard was a veteran of the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. He was stationed in Nurenburg, Germany which allowed him to visit Denmark and Norway, the birthplaces of his parents. In civilian life, he worked as a carman for DWP railroad.
Howard and Judy had three children sadly losing one in 1980.
Howard and Judy loved to travel in the US, Canada, and Mexico. They also spent their later winters being snowbirds in Florida.
Howard is preceded in death by his wife, Judith Barto Peterson; his daughter, Sandra Judith; his sister Lois Peterson Schuman; and two brothers, Ronald, and Robert Peterson.
He is survived by his son, Steven (Rhonda) Peterson; his daughter, Sharon Smith (Todd Murphy); two grandchildren, Matthew (Erin) Smith and Danielle Smith; 3 great-grandchildren, Boston, Jack and Alek Smith; brother, David Peterson; and many nieces and nephews.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Service Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. in Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home 3208 W 3rd Street, Duluth 55805. Interment with military honors at Oneota Cemetery.
