James W. “Jim” Zomerfelt, 76, of Orr, MN passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. He was born on January 3, 1950 in Duluth, MN to Walter and Evelyn Zomerfelt. He worked construction and was a member of the Local 49ers while in Duluth. He then moved to Houston, TX and started his own roofing company. He was in Texas for several years before moving to Florida, selling roofs. After a few years in Florida, he returned to Duluth. Jim reinstated his union card and went back to working construction. He moved to Orr, MN to continue working in the construction field. Jim has lived in Orr for the past 20 years. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Drew Walter Zomerfelt. Survivors include his beloved daughter, Sandy (Troy) Ausmus of East Grand Forks, MN and Jim’s grandchildren, Gage (Gabby) Ausmus, Tye (Marissa) Ausmus and Trey Ausmus all of the Twin Cities; one great-granddaughter, Mckinley Jo Ausmus; Jim’s son, Travis (Danica) Hooper and Jim’s grandson, Jackson James and a granddaughter expected in October all of Duluth, MN; a sister, Judy (Gary Hack) Zomerfelt of Duluth; several cousins. Jim will especially be missed by his faithful companion, Sadie Rae, this dog meant the world to Jim. Special friends, Gary and Ginger Abramson of Orr, MN. Jim will be missed by many as he was a very friendly guy and was able to carry on a conversation with everyone he met. Special mention to Forest and Carol Abramson who made Jim feel like a member of their family. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at the Powerhouse Bar, 423 3rd Ave in Proctor, MN from 5 to 8 p.m.
