James “Jim” Willard Morin passed away surrounded by family on July 4th, 2022 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born on October 15, 1937 to James J. and Elaine M. (Lyons) Morin in Duluth, Minnesota. Jim graduated from Crosby Ironton high school in 1955. After completing telegraphy school in St. Paul, Jim began his 42-year career at Northern Pacific Railroad. He retired from BNSF in 1996 but was always proud to be an employee of The Northern Pacific Railroad. His love of the railroad carried over into every aspect of his life. He was an avid model railroader, a member of the Lake Superior railroad/transportation museum, and a volunteer for the North Shore Scenic Railroad. He also found time to serve on the Proctor Volunteer fire department for 15 years. But his love of the railroad pales in comparison to the love he had for his family. He cherished watching his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren grow up.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James and Elaine; and brother, Robert “Bob” Morin. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Elizabeth J. “Betty”; 4 children, Daniel (Chris) Morin, Marilee Malec, Diane Morin (Karen Swanson), and Andrew Morin; grandchildren, Brittany Morin, Brooke (Wes) Strom, Brandon (Jenna) Morin, Brody (Aubrey) Morin, Tiffany Peterson, Lindsay (Chris) Vogt, Sophia, Olivia & Jack Morin-Swanson, Grant, Reid & Kailyn Morin; 9 great-grandchildren, Peyton, Gavin, Addy, Gracie, Karson, Emmy, Isla, Miley, and Maverick.
