Jerry Davern

The life and times of Jerry J. Davern will be celebrated in a Mass of Christian Burial 11AM October 22, 2012 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Duluth. Jerry left this life and was reunited with Virginia, his wife of 65 years on October 15, 2012. He was born 6th of eight children to Benjamin and Clara Kippels Davern on January 22, 1922 in Duluth. He attended St. James, Longfellow and West Junior Schools. Times were tough and everyone was expected to do their part. As soon as possible he joined the CCC. In 1939 he enlisted with the National Guard, 125 Field Artillery Medical Detachment at the Duluth Armory. When WWII broke out he was first sent to Ft. Dix, then to Ireland for training. He then set sail for Tunisia, North Africa, where he was wounded. In 1944 he returned to Duluth, began working at the Steel Plant and married Virginia Lee on Feb. 26, 1944. In 1950 they moved to Esko where they would stay for the next 38 years raising five children. They then returned to Duluth, first to Zenith Terrace, then to Edgewood Vista. They enjoyed many bus trips, Twins games, jaunts to the casinos and wintering in Yuma, AZ. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, in Oct. 2009, his parents, his brothers Richard, Leo, Bennett, Edward and Paul and sister Marion. He is survived by his children Lee(Rosemary)Davern, Michelle(Tom)Ashmore, La Crescent, MN, Jim(BeBe)Davern, Alexandria, MN, Sharon Davern, Plainview, MN and Stephanie(Don)Stork, Normal, IL, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, brother Earl(Theresa)Davern and sister-in-law Jean Davern and many other nieces and nephews. Visitation 10AM until the 11AM Mass of Christian Burial Monday October 22, 2012 at Holy Family Catholic Church Duluth. Inurnment Oneota Cemetery. Family will donate any memorials received to local veterans organizations. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier-Boettcher Funeral Home.
