John E. Kilpatrick, 81, of Gnesen Township, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 in Aspirus St. Luke’s Hospital. John was born on January 16, 1945 in Duluth Minnesota. John was the son of Henry and Sofia Kilpatrick. He was raised on a farm in Esko by his grandparents and graduated from Esko High School. John served three tours in Vietnam with the CB’s as a welder for the United States Navy. Following his service, John worked as a mechanic for Moses Chevrolet, ran a dairy farm in Esko, and retired as a computer technician from IBM. John married the love of his life, Carol Myshack, in Duluth on November 27th, 1970. John was kindhearted, generous, and a dedicated husband and father. John's greatest accomplishments were his two beautiful children, Dorothea and Nickolas. Outside of providing for his family, you could find John attending his daughters dance practices and recitals, leading Boy Scouts for his son, and was a member of the VFW Post 137. John was completely devoted to his family, earning the nickname “Mr. Wonderful” from his wife. After retirement, John spent his time with his children and grandchildren, where he enjoyed teaching them how to fix anything mechanical. He loved bringing his grandchildren out to ice cream or to the nearest coffee shop and gardening with his wife. He was preceded in death by his parents. John is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughter, Dorothea (Damon) Hantz of Duluth, and his son, Nickolas Kilpatrick (Jenna) of Cloquet; seven grandchildren, Madison Turchi (Brian), Valarie Turchi, Corey Hantz, Ellis Hantz, Bryan Kilpatrick, Dortea (Camden) Ramsey and Matthew Kilpatrick; and his two great-granddaughters, Kailer and Scarlett.

Visitation 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. Memorial service Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home. Rev Cynthia Coffin-Langdon officiating. Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. Arrangements by Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home.
