Karen Marie Erickson, 81, of Duluth, Minnesota passed away peacefully at home of natural causes on Sunday August 2, in her recliner, looking out over Lake Superior with the sun shining on her face. Karen was born August 7, 1944 in Duluth, Minnesota to Eric and Vivian (Sandberg) Erickson. She graduated from Central High School in 1962. She achieved the Gold Bar in Girl Scouts, the highest Girl Scout Honor, equivalent to an Eagle Scout. Karen worked her entire career at St Louis County from 1962-1998 working her way up the ladder through numerous promotions. Karen broke the glass ceilings by being the first female Deputy Auditor at St. Louis County She enjoyed many trips to family cabins at Bass Lake and Thomas Lake, as well as Girls Weekends and trips to China, Europe and Scandinavia with her cousins. While on the "Girls Trip of a Lifetime", she purchased diamond earrings in the Diamond District in New York City, saying "You just gotta have fun!" She was active in Mahjong, Northern Communities Credit Union Board, UMD Tweed Museum volunteer, University for Seniors, Chris Jensen Advisory Board, Duluth Parks and Rec Board, and other organizations. Karen will be remembered for her Independence, great eye for color and detail, and a sharp mind. Karen was a vibrant person, always dressed in bright colors, painted nails and fresh hairstyles. Karen's pride and joy was her nephew Todd, his wife Stacy, and grand-nephews Sam and Gus. She loved going to their activities and keeping up on their interests. Karen was also a devoted caregiver to her mother, aunts, uncle and cousins. She is reunited in Heaven with her parents, Eric and Vivian Erickson and her brother Richard Erickson. Karen is survived by her nephew Todd (Stacy) Erickson of Elk River, MN and their sons, Samuel and Gus: a sister-in-law, Joan Erickson of Blaine, MN; and numerous cousins and friends.
Visitation 10 am until the 11 am funeral service Saturday August 8, 2026 at Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home, 3208 West 3rd Street. Pastor Karen Linne officiating.
