Katherine Kovach

Katherine M. "Katy" Kovach, 87, formerly of West Duluth, died Friday, October 18, 2013 in the Viewcrest Health Center. Katy was born on March 2, 1926 in Duluth to Matthew and Rose Mendesh. She was a 1944 graduate of Denfeld High School, a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and now St James Catholic Church. She worked as a reservationist for the Superior National Forest following her husband's death in 1982. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Stephen, sisters, Anne Chapinski and Mary Zanko and a brother, John Mendesh. She is survived by a son, John Kovach of Chicago, IL; two daughters, Kathy (Bob) Heimbach of Hermantown and Mary (Steve) Marman of Green Bay, WI; a sister, Mildred "Millie" Call of South Daytona, FL and a brother, Dr Anthony Mendesh of Santa Barbara, CA; grandchildren, Christopher McNamara, Peter (Angela) Marman, Laurie (James Reed) Marman, and Matthew Marman; great grandchildren, Brooks and Nolan Marman; numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Viewcrest Health Center for the wonderful care provided to Katy. Katy's wishes are for a private family Mass followed by burial in Oneota Cemetery.
