Laura Ellen Condon

The passing of long time Proctor middle-school and high school teacher, Laura Condon, is heartfelt by her family, friends, colleagues, and many students. Laura was born November 4, 1949 to Karl and Margaret Condon and passed away August 14, 2022 with family by her side. She grew up in Proctor, Mn and attended Proctor High School. She graduated from UMD with a teaching degree and earned a Masters at UWS. Laura taught English at Proctor for 35 yrs.

Though at times her physical abilities were limited, Laura was always on the move working for various causes and organizations. For many years she was an active member, president, and chief negotiator for the Proctor Teachers’ Union. Additionally, Laura served on the READ Board of Directors, Delta Kappa Gamma, did tax preparation for Community Action and represented the Western End of Duluth on the Duluth School Board. Laura was frequently sought for her expertise in negotiation and knowledge of a situation. She was a member of Forbes United Methodist Church in Proctor for 72 yrs where she served wherever needed. In her free time Laura enjoyed watching golf, poker, and Perry Mason. She will be remembered always for her sense of humor, kindness and sense of fairness. She loved her family and they loved her so much. There is no replacing GREAT Auntie Lol for the nieces and nephews.

Laura is preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Margaret; and brother, Mark.

Laura is survived by her sister, Carol Lonke; niece, Katie Mahnke; nephews, Chris (Tonya) Lonke, Cory (Katie) Lonke, and Karl (Kelly) Condon; great nephews, Jack Lonke, Griffin Condon; great nieces, Taylor Lonke, Ella Mahnke and Gracie Condon.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Forbes United Methodist Church, 33 Grove St, Proctor, MN 55810.
