Laura Mae Jones, 87, of Duluth, MN passed away, peacefully with family by her side, on
August 18th, 2019. Laura was born on December 18th, 1931, in Duluth MN. She is the daughter of Jennie and Ruben Skoglund. She was married to Curtis Jones in December of 1952 and they raised their 6 children in Duluth, MN. She was known for her kindness, caring, compassion, and being an outstanding listener along with her quick wit and her wonderful laugh. She had a soft spot in her heart for animals, particularly a love of dogs, and enjoyed their companionship throughout her life. She loved traveling and sharing adventures with her children and husband Curtis on long road trips throughout North America. Laura also enjoyed camping at the family's permanent campsite near Hayward, WI, where they stayed for 19 years. She deeply enjoyed nature and being out on the boat in the summer. Laura was also a talented piano player. She could learn to play songs quickly without reading music. Laura, being a supporting wife, took great care of her husband when he was ill. This extended his life and well-being for many years by providing outstanding care and support. She was immensely proud of her family and her quiet determination was instilled in her children and grandchildren which inspired their success in adulthood. Laura was predeceased by her loving husband, Curtis Jones, in 2004, parents, and brothers Gerald Skoglund and Dale Skoglund. Laura is survived by her 3 daughters, Debra (Jon) Vomachka, Laurie (Phil) Swenson, and Susan (David) Taylor, and three sons, Curtis Jones Jr, David (Susan) Jones, and Gary (Svetlana) Jones. In addition, she is survived by her 6 grandchildren, David Vomachka, Daniel (Melissa) Swenson, Jessica (Matt) Sheridan, Adam (Amy) Jones, Kody Bolander and Aaron Kulikov along with her 5 great-grandchildren, Kate, Liam, and Emma Swenson and Iris and Jack Sheridan. She is also survived by her two brothers Calvin (Lydia) Skoglund and Dennis (Bev) Skoglund, and many nieces and nephews. Laura’s family wishes to send heartfelt thanks to the Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, MN and St. Croix Hospice. In her final weeks, their exceptional caregivers went above and beyond to care for her as though she was a member of their own families.
