Lorne Swanstrom

February 28, 1939 — January 13, 2013

Lorne McLean (Mac) Swanstrom, 73, a lifelong Duluthian, died Jan. 13, 2013, under care for ALS. He was born on Feb. 28, 1939, the son of Dwight and Anna Jean Swanstrom. Mac graduated from Denfeld High School with the class of 1957 and went on to secure a degree in economics from Whitworth College in Spokane, WA. In his business career he worked in insurance sales for the Dwight Swanstrom Co. in Lincoln Park, and later was broker/owner of Dwight Swanstrom Realty for 27 years. Later he was associated with Real Estate Services and worked in recent years in the office of St. Mary's Hospital. He also was in the Senior Aide Program at Nopeming and in the St. Louis County Court House. He was a U.S. Army veteran and also served in the Minnesota National Guard and Army Reserve. Mac was an avid sports fan, attending countless sporting events, favoring high school basketball and the Minnesota Twins. He also enjoyed golf, especially with friend Jack Green, together with duck and grouse hunting and fishing. He was a past member of the former Second Presbyterian Church and Lakeside Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Fred, and daughter-in-law Veronica Swanstrom. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughter Sheryl Dixon; son James; sister Mary Patterson and brothers William and Jonathan (Jock); grandchildren Thomas and Brian Dixon and several nieces and nephews. Visitation 10 AM until the 11AM Funeral Service Thursday at Williams-Lobermeier-Boettcher Funeral Home. Burial at Forest Hill Cemetery. Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard.
