Lorraine Foster

Lorraine Woods Foster, 100, formerly of Duluth, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2018. She was born in Duluth, Minnesota on December 24, 1917 to the parents of George and Ragnhild (Bakke) Anderson. Lorraine married Richard E. Woods on July 1, 1942, and moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1950. She attended Hamline University and was a dedicated and successful employee of the Bell Telephone company for several decades. Lorraine resided in the New Orleans area for approximately sixty years before spending the last five years at the Villas of Sunny Acres nursing home in Northglenn, Colorado. Lorraine was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her friends and family. Over the years she collected a large library of cookbooks from around the country. She was also an active member of many social and charitable organizations, including Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. She loved dogs and spending many summers with her family and friends at Pike Lake in Duluth, Minnesota. Lorraine was predeceased by her loving husbands of many years, Richard E. Woods (1973) and Alison P. Foster (2007). She was also predeceased by her son, Richard C. Woods (2006). Lorraine is survived by her son, Robert L. Woods; four grandchildren, Maylin Woods, Michael Woods, David Woods and Stephen Woods, and three great-grandchildren, Ella Woods, Fischer Woods and Logan Woods. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces, most of whom reside in Minnesota.

Her son, Robert, lovingly cared for her the last 8 years of her life. Lorraine’s niece,

Darlene Virta, also provided love and support in recent years. The family gives them and everyone else who loved and cared for Lorraine their greatest gratitude.

Funeral service celebrating Lorraine’s life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at the Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home located at 3208 W. 3rd Street, Duluth, Minnesota 55806. A private burial will be held at Park Hill Cemetery.
