Lt Col Edward “Ed” C. Sink (Ret.), 81, of Duluth, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022 in St. Luke’s Hospital. Ed was born on May 25, 1941 in Duluth to Clement and Cecelia (Blazejak) Sink. Ed’s parents died when Ed was very young, so his grandparents, Frank and Hedwig Blazejak raised him. Ed attended St Peter and Paul Catholic School and was a 1959 graduate of Denfeld High School. Following high school, Ed attended DBU and in 1960 Ed enlisted in the Air Force. Ed was assigned to the 148th in Duluth and served as Chief of Supply, climbing in the ranks over the years and retiring in 1990 as Lt Colonel with the Minnesota Air National Guard. He married Marlene Granda on September 13, 1969 in St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Ed was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, Friar’s, Knights of Columbus and Kostka. Ed was also a member of the St. Louis County Rescue Squad, serving for over 37 years. Ed enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a friend to all. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Clarence Johns; his maternal grandparents who raised him and his paternal grandparents, John and Victoria Sink. Ed is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marlene; a son, Kenny (Angie) Sink of Belle Plaine, MN; two daughters, Kim (Danny) Nelson of Hermantown and Kristin Collelo of Superior, WI; grandchildren, Tabitha (Dylan) Traxler of St. Thomas, MN, Courtney Collelo (Carter Schleif) of Brooklyn Park, MN, Kaitlyn (Zach) Barclay of Duluth, Kristopher Nelson (Kenzie Watters) of Hermantown and Taylor Collelo of Superior; great-grandchildren, Aurora, Leighton, Violet, Rhett and Saige; siblings, Ray (Rose) Sink and Marcy (Dan) Eggen; aunt, Barb (Leo) Blazejak; nephew, nieces, cousins and many friends. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke’s for the wonderful care they provided to Ed. Visitation 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, June 18, 2022 in St. Raphael’s Catholic Church. 5779 Seville Road. Rev Fr John Petrich officiating. Burial in Polish Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home.
