Marcia Rae Franzen

Marcia Rae Franzen went joyfully into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 20, 2026. She was born on March 24, 1950, in Cloquet, MN. She graduated from St. Olaf College in 1972 and married the love of her life, John Franzen, in 1973. They went on to raise eight children, whom she home schooled and poured her life into. She was an unparalleled cook and homemaker. She was an avid reader, enjoyed music and was a beloved Sunday School teacher. She was known for her kindness and her beautiful smile (even through the final days of her battle with Alzheimer's).

Marcia is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Marilyn Riihiluoma. She is survived and deeply loved by her devoted husband, John; their children, Jenny (Charles) Helgeton, Peter (Erin) Franzen, David (Shannon) Franzen, Lisa (Jeremy) Bowen, John (Melissa) Franzen, Hannah (Jonathan) Chappell, Hope Eden and Heather (Andrew) Ross; five siblings; many other relatives and friends; and twenty-one precious grandchildren who have known her love in great measure.

The family would like to thank the staff of Elysian Senior Homes of Duluth and Essentia Hospice for their excellent, tender care during the last few months of Marcia's life.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 10:00 AM at The Landing, 9302 W. Skyline Pkwy, Duluth. Visitation will take place one hour prior. A light reception will follow. Interment will be at the Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery, Duluth. Memorials may be made to The Landing.
