Margaret Hamilton

December 12, 1939 — September 13, 2013

Margaret Ann Barnard Hamilton, 73, of Duluth, passed away peacefully at St. Luke's Hospital on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, with her family by her side.

She was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., on Dec. 12, 1939, to Emma and Raymond Barnard. She was the oldest of 10 children.

Marg, as her family called her, grew up on the Barnard Brothers family farm, which raised apples and cherries for the commercial markets. She attended Sevastopol School, graduating in 1957. She then attended Carroll College in Waukesha, Wis., graduating in 1961 with a degree in Elementary Education. It was there that she met her future husband, Dave. They were married on June 22, 1963 at Sturgeon Bay and recently celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Marge's first love was with children and she taught at Waupun, Wis., prior to moving to Duluth in 1964. She taught in the Duluth school system, retiring from Rockridge School in 2005. Her other passions were reading and gardening. She always had 1 or 2 books with her at all times.

She was an amazing mother who cared deeply for people. She loved the Lord and chaired and served on numerous committees and task forces at her church. Her wisdom, knowledge and insight touched the lives of so many and will be greatly be missed by both family and acquaintances.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Doug and David.

She is survived by her husband Dave; sons Rick and David (Ilone); grandsons Dane, Alex, Wyatt, Willie and granddaughter 'Becca, of Duluth; brothers and sisters Bill (Jeanne), Jim (Crystal), Tom (Branch), Kathy (Bob), Carl (Chris), Bob (Jeanne); Mariellen (Tony); and many nieces and nephews.

Thank you to nurses and staff of 4-West, 2-West, and the Cancer Center for their wonderful care.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, in Lester Park United Methodist Church in Duluth with visitation an hour earlier. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lester Park United Methodist Church would be appreciated. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier-Boettcher Funeral Home.
