Marlene Norlund

Marlene Delores Norlund, 77, of Duluth, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014 in Viewcrest Health Center following a long battle with Alzheimer's. Marlene was born in Duluth on October 22, 1936 to John and Dorothy (Wolff) Johnson. Marlene was a graduate of Denfeld High School and married Richard Craig Norlund on October 5, 1957 in the Temple Baptist Church in Duluth. They lived in various cities, including Rochester, MN and Yuma, AZ. Following Richards death in 1993, Marlene returned to Duluth, earned the CNA Certificate from LSC and worked for St. Mary's Hospital-Home Care. Marlene enjoyed sewing, reading, camping, traveling and roller skating. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard, and her son, Bruce R. Norlund in 2012. She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Lynn Walburn and Brenda Faye Balik, both of Duluth, MN, Melissa Ruth (Blaine) Barrow of LaMirada,CA, and Jalane Marie (Terence) Lord of Queensbury, NY; two sisters, Sharon (George) Nylander of Duluth and Bonnie (Orlyn) Olson of Hibbing, MN; two brothers, Dale Johnson of Houston, TX and Jeffrey (Karin) Johnson of Esko, MN; six grandchildren, Sharlene and Samantha Balik, Heather Norlund, Joshua and Jessica Barrow, and Jack Lord. Visitation will be from 12 noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, September 2, 2014 in Lincoln Park Community Church, 2202 West 3rd St. Burial in Sunrise Cemetery.
