Martha Seehus

Martha Wilhelmina Seehus, 93, formerly of West Duluth, died Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Edgewood Vista. Martha was born on September 30, 1920 to Ernest and Agnes (Peterson) Carlson in Duluth. She married Victor R. Seehus on October 7, 1939 in Duluth. Martha had a varied career beginning at Scott Graph's making ammo boxes during the war. She was also the lunchroom manager at the former Northern City National Bank, a hostess at the Captain's Table Restaurant, and an elevator operator at the Spalding Hotel. She was a member of Elim Lutheran Church and its Fellowship Club, West Duluth Community Club, Duluth Sister Cities and the Hotel, Motel, Restaurant, Bar and Club Employees Union Local 99 of the AFL-CIO. Martha also participated in the Minnesota Senior Olympics. Martha and Victor were instrumental in the development and grant writing for the West Duluth Evergreen Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Victor; brothers, Iver and Arne Carlson; a sister, Inez DeBenidictis and a daughter, Marilyn Weiss. She is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Rodney) Benson of Fishers, Indiana and a son, Carl (Sandy) Seehus formerly of Duluth; 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. The family thanks all the staff at Edgewood Vista for the wonderful, loving, professional care they have provided for the past 10 years. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the 12 noon funeral service Friday, May 23, 2014 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 2308 West 3rd St. Rev Greg Daher officiating. Burial in Oneota Cemetery.
