Mary Makitalo

Mary Frances (Wilhelm) Makitalo, 84, went to heaven on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. Mary was born in Duluth on Feb. 29, 1932, to Frank and Agnes Wilhelm. She grew up in Hermantown, graduating in 1950. Mary worked as a nurse's aide in Duluth. She married Uno in 1953 and raised eight beautiful children, three girls and five boys. She worked as a librarian assistant in the Duluth School System, retiring in 1992. Mary enjoyed crocheting, word puzzles, singing, bingo, going out to eat, and visiting with family and friends. She relished her frequent car rides and outings. She loved her family and will be greatly missed. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Uno Makitalo; two sons, Allen and Roger; her parents; her brother Richard Wilhelm; and her sister LaVonne Larson. Mary leaves behind six of her children, 14 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren: Joycine (Ed) Avalos and Kathleen, Roger (Patricia) and expected son, Randy, and William; Barbara (Art) Brandt and Allen; Karen (David) Anderson and Evie (Dave) DeVault, Brian Johnson and Emmett, and Kim Johnson and Riley; Dale (Dorothy Lynn) and Dale Jr. and Rachael; Ken; Rick; and her son Allen's children, Aaron (Brittany) and Natalie, and Kyle and his brother and sister James and Brittany. Sister-in-law: Claudia Wilhelm. Close friends: Carol Carlson and Stephanie (Brent) Gould; and Aftenro family. Along with many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 3, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, March 4, all in Williams-Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home, 3208 W. Third St. Full luncheon to follow at Rice Lake City Hall, 4017 West Beyer Rd. (corner of Howard Gnesen and W. Beyer).
