Michael Emery Hughes

Michael Emery Hughes, fondly known as Mike, born on December 2,1949, departed from this world surrounded by family on March 6^th, 2024.

Mike is a graduate of Denfeld High School in 1968 after graduating Mike joined the US Navy, later retiring from the DWP/CN railroad. He was an esteemed member of the American Legion Post No. 71 and the American Veterans Auxiliary No. 2000.

In his younger years, Mike found great joy in coaching his sons in hockey and baseball.  He had a passion for fishing, relished moments spent at Island Lake, and delighted in culinary pursuits, particularly cooking. His affection for his dog companions was boundless.

For the past 13 years, Mike found solace and happiness in Florida where he cherished time with family and friends.

Mike is survived by his sons Matthew (Lorie) Hughes, and Caley Hughes, sister Bonnie (Darryl) Roberg, Sister Kathleen “Kitty” Hesse, cherished grandson Luke Hughes, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Hughes, mother Dorothy Rathbun, stepfather Glen Rathbun, and biological father Frank Hughes.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 11 am in Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home with visitation at 10 am, followed by a reception at the American Legion Post No. 71.  As we bid farewell to Mike, we find solace in knowing that he has been reunited with the love of his life and best friend, Susie.  He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those he touched.
