Michal Rzatkowski

Michal Rzatkowski, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, after valiantly battling Alzheimer’s disease. Michal was born on October 9, 1944, in the quaint village of Sobolewo, Poland, to his loving parents Bronislawa and Bronislaw Rzatkowski. He was one of nine children and is now reunited in eternal rest with his parents, sisters Teresa, Marcia, Bozana, and brother Janusz. A devoted family man, Michal leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, Josephine, with whom he shared a beautiful life filled with love and laughter in Duluth, Minnesota. Together, they nurtured a family that includes their daughter, Theresa Kautz, and their son, Thomas Rzatkowski. Surviving Sisters Danuta, Jadwiga and Brothers Tadek and Marek. Michal was a proud grandfather to Kristopher Kautz, his only grandchild, who brought immense joy to his life. Michal's life was marked by his dedication to his craft and community. He pursued an education in Poland, graduating from Technical School with a Master’s Certification as a Stone Mason. His passion for masonry led him to join the Bricklayers Union in 1974, where he remained a dedicated member for over half a century. Michal's skill and expertise were evident in the many stone and marble projects he completed across Duluth, first with Donald Holm’s Construction and later with Bedrock & Flint, until his retirement. Beyond his professional achievements, Michal served honorably in the Polish Army, a testament to his sense of duty and patriotism. His leadership and commitment extended to his role as Past President of the Polish National Alliance, and he was a valued member of St. Elizabeth’s Church. Michal's contributions to the Local Brick and Block Layers Union further exemplified his dedication to his trade and his community. Known for his quick wit, endless stories, and humor, Michal had a magnetic personality that drew people in. He was always ready to lend a hand with building and masonry projects, embodying the spirit of generosity and camaraderie. Visitation Service will be held on Friday September 25th 5pm-7pm with Rosary Prayers at 6:30 pm, at Williams-Lobermeier-Boettcher Funeral Home 3208 West 3rd Street Duluth, MN 55806 Funeral Services will be held on Saturday September 26th 2026 11am at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, 610 99th Ave West, Duluth, MN 55808 lunch following the Service. Burial ceremony at Calvary Cemetery Superior, Wisconsin.
