Nels Grindahl

November 27, 1916 — November 2, 2013

Nels Grindahl, 96, formerly of Duluth, died Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Lakewood Health Care Center in Staples, Minnesota. He was born in Roseau, Minnesota to Frances and Henry Grindahl. Nels attended Roseau High School and worked as a self-employed general contractor. He married Elna Brostrom on July 7, 1943 and were married for 61 years. He was an active member of Temple Baptist Church and later a founding member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, an avid hunter and fisherman and contributing time and expertise in the construction of Trout Lake Camp. Also, known in the Duluth Heights as the "Raspberry Man". He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Elna; sisters and brothers, John, Carl, Violet and Rose; and great granddaughter, Kayla. He is survived by a daughter, Carol Ebeltoft of Cocoa, FL; three sons, Lloyd (Bev) of Duluth, Minn., Glen (Diane) of Roseville, Minn. and Mark (Cindy) of Pine River, Minn; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; five sisters and brothers. Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, November 7, 2013 in Emmanuel Baptist Church of Duluth Heights. 1505 Eklund Ave. Pastor David Mork officiating. Burial in Sunrise Cemetery. Memorials to Trout Lake Camp would be appreciated.
