Priscilla J. Olson

Priscilla J. Olson, of Duluth, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born on April 27, 1933 in Duluth to Walter and Jennie Skarman. Priscilla was a 1951 graduate of Denfeld High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master’s Equivalent from UMD. She married the love of her life Donald C. Olson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Duluth on May 2, 1953. Priscilla was a teacher for 27 years at Laura McArthur Elementary. She impacted the lives of many children individualizing her teaching to help each of her students learn. She was a Kindergarten and 1st Grade Teacher and she concluded her career by co-developing a program titled Assurance of Mastery for 1st and 2nd graders that needed additional help with reading. She loved children and her passion was seeing them succeed in learning. Priscilla was a devoted Christian. In her younger years she was active in Women Circles, Cradle Role and Couples Club at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She was a member of Christ Lutheran since 1960 until her passing and was active in the Dorcas Circle and recently she and her husband spearheaded the establishment of the Christ Lutheran Food Shelf. She shared her artistic and creative talents by designing multiple banners for the church. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Community Bible Study, and was a long time volunteer at Kid’s Closet. Priscilla and Don during their 69 years of marriage traveled throughout the United States and 38 countries. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sharon Strum; a grandson, Brandon Carlson; two brother-in-laws, Jerry Strum and Patrick Trihey. Priscilla is survived by her loving husband, Don; a daughter, Brenda (John) Flayton; a son, Mark (Joyce) Olson; a sister, Faye Trihey; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly; nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and countless friends. Visitation 10 am until the 11 am Celebration of Life Service Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Christ Lutheran Church. 2415 Ensign Street, Duluth. Pastor Gary DeSha officiating. She will be entombed at a later date at Oneota Cemetery. In lieu of Flowers, memorials to the Christ Lutheran Church Food Shelf would be greatly appreciated.
