Reginald “Reggie” “Caveman” Amell, 82, of Duluth, MN, passed away on June 20th, 2024, at Benedictine Health Center.
Reggie was born on May 15th, 1942, to Louis and Mary Amell in Duluth, MN. After completing his GED, Reggie joined the Marine Corps and started his long career in the armed forces. He was enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, Merchant Marines, Army National Guard, and Air National Guard. He competed on numerous pistol teams, winning many awards along the way. He retired in 2002 as Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt) from the Air Guard with over 28 years of service in the military.
During his civilian life, Reggie will be known for his work at WLSSD as an Operation and Maintenance Supervisor until retiring in 2001. He wintered in Yuma, AZ, where he made many new friends.
Reggie enjoyed numerous hobbies, including fishing the many rivers and lakes in Minnesota, hunting, motorcycles, and of course, his extensive firearm collection. Above all else, Cavemen was a Leatherneck. In 2004, he was the founding President of the Leathernecks MC Minnesota Chapter. The club members were his family. This was not merely a hobby but was his passion and way of life.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; two son-in-law’s, Thomas Hook and Troy Lee; and his lifelong best friend, Tim Carroll.
Reggie is survived by his children; Michael Ranthum, Donna Tomfohrde, Michelle Hook, Bonnie Lee, JoAnn Amell, and Jason (Tina) Amell; brother, Daniel Amell; cousin, GT Amell; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 2 nieces; 1 nephew; and numerous Leatherneck brothers, friends, and loved ones.
The family would like to thank the Benedictine Health Center, including Carolyn, Emma, Terri, and others, in addition to Gentiva Hospice, including Kelli, Lisa, and Danielle, and special friends, Mark and Deb.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 27th from 10 am until 12 pm at Williams-Lobermeier-Boettcher Funeral Home (3208 W. 3rd St, Duluth, MN 55806). Funeral service will occur at 12 pm, burial with military honors to follow at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery-Duluth at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Reggie to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
