Richard Jonland

Richard W. Jonland, 95, of Duluth went home to be with his Lord on September 23, 2017.  Richard was born in Duluth on October 23, 1921 to Ole and Sofia (Espeland) Jonland.  He married Blanche Larson on June 6, 1943.  Richard was a former member of Lakeview Covenant Church and was presently a member of First Covenant Church, Duluth.  He was Commander of Mark Christian American Legion Post and Chaplain of Duluth Gideon’s West Camp.  Richaed was a veteran of WWII where he served at Percy Jones hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan and later on the 83rd Hospital Train Unit in England and Europe.  He owned Ed’s Home Bakery in Duluth for 20 years.  Later he worked for Glass Block Bakery, City Market in Superior and Johnson’s Bakery in Duluth.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, George and Spencer; sister’s, Eleanor Jonland and Dolores House; brother-in-law, Tom Peck; sisters-in-law, Marge Jonland, Ruth Jonland, Margaret Peck and Betty Jonland; a son, Richard Jr; and his wife, Blanche in 2015.  Survivors include daughters, Kathleen (Jay) Ryan of Royal Palm Beach, Florida and Lorraine (Jim) Stoll of Chaska, MN; seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brothers, Orville of Rockford, Illinois, and Walter (Lucy) of Denver, Colorado, several nieces and nephews including Stephen (Martha) Jonland of Duluth.  Visitation 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at First Covenant Church, 2101 West 2nd St. Pastor Mark Kelly officiating. Burial in Sunrise Memorial Park. Memorials to First Covenant Church would be appreciated.
