Roger D. Olson, 82, of Duluth, died Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital. Roger was born on October 17, 1937 in Duluth to Andrew Gustav and Anna (Anderson) Olson. He graduated from Denfeld High School in 1955 and married Janet Lundgren in Duluth on November 2, 1957. He earned a degree in Art History from UMD, graduating in 1960. Roger joined Andren’s Paint Company in 1960, becoming owner and a certified picture framer, retiring in 2014. He enjoyed working with art, painting and pottery. He was a member of Spirit of God Lutheran Church and the former Bethany Lutheran where he was on the Building Committee, Church Council and head of the Estate Committee. He was a member of the West Duluth Businessman’s Association and rink director at Piedmont Hockey Association. He was very active in many clubs and organizations in Duluth, quietly working behind the scenes. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Florence Jeannette, Dorothy Pizzano, Albert Olson and Merlyn Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Peter (Maureen) of Duluth, Stephen “Skip” (Kim) of Alborn and Susan (Richard) Hall of Duluth; seven grandchildren, Apryl (Bobby) Katsis, Chad (Brook) Olson, Annie (Shaun) Vitek, Chris (Elena Georgiana) Olson, Isaac Hall, Emily Hall and Ben Hall; eight great-grandchildren, Ally, Kaitrin, Iliana, Maria, Aiden, Ethan, Natalie and Keegan. The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Home Instead, Ecumen, Benedictine and Essentia Health for the wonderful care they provided. Visitation 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, February 24, 2020 at Spirit of God Lutheran Church, 2431 West 3rd Street. Rev. Dr. Nathan Sager officiating. Burial in Bethany Cemetery.
