Sigurd Francis Randa “Sig” passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday morning, October 14, 2018 at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living Facility. He was born on a Sunday on December 29, 1929 in St. Ansgaars Hospital in Moorhead, Minnesota. He grew up in Georgetown, Minnesota, graduated from Moorhead High School, graduated from Concordia College with a B.S. Degree in English & History. He lettered in track & field specializing in the javelin. During his freshman year at Concordia, he attended the University of Oslo in Norway in 1949. He spent the summers of 1950 & 1951 in the PLC Program of the US Marine Corp in Quantico, Virginia. He also worked as a police officer on the Fargo Police Department during his summers at Concordia College and later while teaching History & English at Fertile High School. In 1960, he received a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology from the University of North Dakota. In 1961, Sig accepted a position at Duluth Central High School as a Guidance Counselor and in 1965, he worked as the Director of the Skill Center in Duluth, MN. He retired as the Assistant Director of Student Services from Lake Superior College in 1986. On August 24, 1951, Sig married his college sweetheart and the love of his life Shirley J. Kittleson “Shirl”. They were happily married for 67 years. They raised six children together. Sig was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially during the Holidays, reading, following politics, communicating with his Norwegian cousins in Stavanger, Norway and taking trips up his beloved North Shore of Lake Superior with his wife and family. Sig was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend. He will forever be remembered for his patience, kindness, generosity and extraordinary faith in God. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all of the lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his parents Sigurd and Freda (Randgaard) Randa and son Karl Randa. He is survived by his wife Shirley, his children Jon Randa (Kathy), Eric Randa (Kim), Kris Randa (Yvonne), Lori Randa (Joe Vukelich) and Leif Randa (Lori) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A special thank you to the staff at St. Luke’s Hospice and Edgewood Vista Assisted Living. Also, all his family and friends who supported him during his end of life. Visitation 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Peace In Christ Lutheran Church, 5007 Maple Grove Road. Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard.
