Susan Jo Gatewood

Susan Jo Gatewood, 79, of Duluth, died Monday, May 18, 2026 in her home. She was born on January 29, 1947 in Duluth to Joseph and Helen Hillman. Sue was a 1965 graduate of Duluth Central High School and worked as a lab tech at St. Mary’s and then a CNA at Nopeming Nursing Home. Sue married William “Bill” Gatewood in Duluth on December 30, 1965. She enjoyed playing the organ, baking, and going for an afternoon drive. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles Hillman, and his wife, Julie; a sister, Alice Sundquist. Sue is survived by her husband, Bill; three daughters, Kim (Mark) Pettit, Connie Gatewood and Cheryl Gatewood; a brother-in-law, Dave Sundquist. She is loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure. Cremation has taken place, and a private family and friends’ committal service will be held. Burial in the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery-Duluth. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
