Sylvia Verva, age 92, Duluth, died peacefully May 7, 2012 at Chris Jensen Nursing Home with her family at her side. She was born in South St. Paul on August 24, 1919 to Nicholas and Mary Stroia. She was a 1937 graduate of South St. Paul High School and a graduate of Lancaster Business College. She married George Verva on February 10, 1944 in South St. Paul and moved to Duluth in 1954. In Duluth she had worked in the business offices at Bodin Furniture Co., JC Penney and Diamond Tool and Horseshoe. She and her husband owned and operated the Electronic Sales and Service Repair Shoppe. Sylvia was an election judge in Duluth for over 20 years. She believed in supporting her community and had also served as Treasurer and Vice President at Bayview Elementary School, was a member of MN COACT, MN Senior Federation and Ladies Aux of VFW Post #6320. Sylvia took great joy in spending time sharing a meal and laughter with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother John, sister Mary Dusold, great-grandson Jared Towey and an infant son. Sylvia is survived by her children Steven (Anna), Duluth, Joan Nurminen, Duluth, Nancy (Tim) Robertson, Saginaw, 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
