Walter Bernard Ament, 93, passed away on October 28, 2025, surrounded by his family in the home of his daughter and son-in-law.
Walt was born in Bluffton, MN on June 5, 1932 to parents Joseph and Katherine (Schmiesing) Ament. For all of his long life, he was a man of many talents and facets: he was a farmer, a miner, a logger, a fisherman, a gardener, a refrigeration expert, and an honest-to-goodness cowboy, but most importantly to those who loved him, he was an incredibly attentive and loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. On January 21, 1956, Walt married Dorothy Blotti, his pen pal, best friend, and love of his life, and together they built a beautiful family in Morgan Park, MN. Though he lived in Minnesota for the majority of his life, he still kept in contact with his nine siblings and the rest of his family on the west coast. Ask anyone, and they will tell you he was a vivid storyteller, a brilliant mentor, and most importantly, a good man.
Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy; his parents; eight of his siblings; and his daughter, Judith Anne. Walt is survived by his sister, Mary Alice Otto; his daughters, Pamella (Dan) Wallgren and Mary (Mike) Johnson; his granddaughters, Emily (Clayton Gries) Wallgren, Kate Johnson, and Anna Johnson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and neighbors, especially Walt and Lynne; his best friend Chuck; and his beloved grand-dogs, Keanu,
Tidy-Bear, Max, Maggie, and Kai.
Walt’s family would like to thank the wonderful hospice staff from Essentia Health, especially Brandy, Cindy, and Nate; the Care Planning Institute, provided by the VA; the drivers from Medspeed; and Home Instead.
