Daniel Holte

Daniel Holte, 88, of Duluth, died Friday, May 22, 2020 at the Beehive Homes Assisted Living in Duluth. Dan was born on April 5, 1932 in Grygla, MN to Nels and Caroline (Ramsey) Holte. He was a 1949 graduate of Central High School and served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954. During his last year of service, Dan married Marian Erickson in Duluth on July 11, 1953. Together they raised their son, Mark.  Dan attended and graduated from Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis with a degree in building construction drafting and estimating. Dan worked as a draftsman for Paper-Calmenson and McCann- Wasmuth, both in Minneapolis before moving to Laverne, MN where he and Marian became owner and operator the Cozy Rest Motel from 1976 to 1994. They returned to Duluth in 1994 for their retirement where Dan enjoyed fishing, Alpine skiing and upland game hunting. Dan had great passion and love for the cabin called the  “Spruce Arosa” and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  Dan was a member of Elk River Methodist Church where he was church school superintendant; the Brunswick Methodist Church in Minneapolis. Dan was a member at the Hillside United Methodist Church in Duluth and West Duluth American Legion Post 71. Dan enjoyed his coffee visits at SuperOne and the mall every morning. He also loved to sing with family, especially at his brother, John’s home; in the choir at church and karaoke every Friday night at the VFW with his “Everly Brother” Carl. He also went shopping and out to lunch with his lady friends every week. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; his wife, Marian; his son, Mark; brothers, Helmer, Oscar, Melvin, Ben, Phillip, Alfred, David and Joseph; sisters, Lydia Holte and Esther Martindale. Dan is survived by a brother, John (Nancy) of Duluth; many nieces, nephews and in-laws. The family would like to thank Pastor Cynthia Coffin-Langdon for her continued support and prayers; the Fresenius in Spirit Valley, Ecumen and Beehive Homes for their compassion and care. Private family services were held and burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
